Tarkan Tevetoğlu was born on October 17, 1972, in the town of Alzey, in the Rhineland-Palatina state of West Germany, as the child of Neşe and Ali Tevetoğlu. He is originally from Rize İkizdereli. Neşe Tevetoğlu was influenced by the comic character Tarkan and named her son this name. Tarkan's interest in music started in his childhood.

The family, which has a total of six children, returned to Turkey in 1986 and settled in the Karamürsel district of Kocaeli. Tarkan started his high school life here and learned about Turkish Classical Music by studying at the Karamürsel Advanced Music Association.

In the following years, after his family moved to Istanbul, he continued his education at Üsküdar Music Society and began performing in various venues. After high school, he could not get the university degree he wanted and while he was planning to go to Germany, he met Mehmet Söğütoğlu, the owner of Istanbul Records company, and got an album deal. signed.

Tarkan released his first studio album, which he called Again Sensiz, on 26 December 1992 in Turkey with the label of Istanbul Plak.[6] He wrote the lyrics for three songs in the album alone, composed the three songs and debuted with the song "Kıl Oldum". He re-released the album on CD on 18 June 1993, adding three new versions to the album. Apart from "Kıl Oldum", he shot music videos for the songs "Who was it", "Did you see me when you came?", "I can't give up" and "Koarsin Beni (New Version)". Total sales of the album were announced as 700,000.

In May 1994, the second Tarkan studio album Aacayipsin was released in Turkey; It was published in Germany in 1996 and in Russia in 1998. The album featured names such as Sezen Aksu, Ümit Sayın, Ozan Çolakoğlu and Yıldız Tilbe. Tarkan undertook the writing of the lyrics for four songs, of which he composed three of them;

He shot music videos for the songs "Is it all yours?", "I mustn't forget", "I Pour Roses On Your Ways", "Winter Sun", "Satan Azapta", "Come Back Baby" and "Wait". Aacayipsin's album sold two and a half million copies and brought the singer the Best Pop Music Male Artist awards at the 1st Kral TV Video Music Awards held in 1995. Also from the same awards, "Are they all yours?" The song received awards in the categories of Best Lyrics, Best Composition and Best Song. During this period, he settled in the United States and met Ahmet Ertegün, the founder of Atlantic Records.

Dudu EP, produced by Tarkan and Ozan Çolakoğlu, went on sale in the summer of 2003; Apart from Turkey, it took its place on the shelves in Ukraine, Russia and Japan. "Dudu", "Don't Ask My Heart", "Smile, Kaderine" and "I'm on a Long, Fine Road" were clipped songs of the EP. The sales figure was determined as one million. The singer received the Best Pop Music Male Artist award at the 10th Kral TV Video Music Awards held in 2004.

Tarkan released a single called "Separation Difficult" in 2005; At the beginning of 2006, he released the song "Bounce" as a single in Europe. In April 2006, the first English-language Tarkan studio album, Come Closer, which was prepared as a result of long work, was released on April 7, 2006, with a total of 15 songs. The album peaked at number 18 on the German Album Chart, 43 on the Swiss Album Chart, and number 50 on the Austrian Album Chart; The sales figure in Turkey was announced as 110,000. The album's second single, "Start the Fire", was released in August 2006.

On March 11, 2016, Tarkan's ninth studio album "Ahde Vefa" was released. The album, which was released under the Hitt Music label, was distributed by DMC. "Ahde Vefa" is Tarkan's first music album. The album reached 170,000 sales in its first week.

He released the single "Cuppa" on July 14, 2016. At the 43rd Golden Butterfly Awards, she received the Best Project award with Ahde Vefâ for her contributions to Turkish Classical Music.[46] Tarkan released his new album "10" on 15 June 2017 from DMC Music. The artist shot the first clip of the album, which includes 14 songs, for the song "Yolla", the lyrics of which belong to himself and the music of Ozan Çolakoğlu.

Tarkan married Pınar Dilek on April 29, 2016. In 2018, his daughter Liya was born.
