He was born on 13 July 1954 in Denizli.

Fatma Sezen Yıldırım, known by her stage name Sezen Aksu, is a Turkish singer, songwriter and composer.

Since his debut in the mid-1970s, he became an icon with his songs and shaped Turkish pop music. In addition to his singing, he often came to the fore with his songwriter and composer identity, thanks to the songs he wrote and composed for others. He supported many backing vocalists and produced their albums. This helped and influenced various names throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Aksu, often referred to as the Little Sparrow in the media, was born in Sarayköy, Denizli, as the daughter of a mother who came to Turkey from Thessaloniki with the population exchange and a father from Rize.

She studied here when her family moved to İzmir when she was three years old. After completing İzmir Girls' High School, she attended Ege University Faculty of Agriculture, but dropped out in her second grade. He moved to Istanbul to record records in 1974, and a year later he released his first 45 single "Haydi Şansım" under the name Sezen Seley.

In 1977, he published his first long plays, "Goodbye". Then dozens of them, including Sparrow (1978), Firuze (1982), You Don't Cry (1984), Go (1986), Sezen Aksu Sings (1989), Smile (1991), Crazy Girl's Song (1993), Dream Gardens (1996). The album was released. Among them, Smile became one of the best-selling albums of all time in Turkey. Aksu has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide to date.

His mother, Şehirban Hanım, who is a science teacher, is the daughter of a family that came from Thessaloniki with the population exchange. His father, Sami Yıldırım, of Laz origin, from Pazar, Rize, is a mathematics teacher. After living in Denizli until the age of three, Aksu moved to İzmir with his family.

Growing up with his brother named Nihat, Aksu became interested in many branches of art in his youth. He took painting lessons from Cengiz Bozkurt for a while. He also fit theater and dance lessons into this period. Attracting attention with her rebellious personality during this period, Aksu began to dream of becoming a belly dancer.

Aksu won the sixth place in the 'Golden Voice' competition, opened by Hafta Sonu magazine in 1970 and headed by Ajda Pekkan, while another pop artist, Nilüfer, came in first. Thus, Nilüfer released her first album before Sezen Aksu. Aksu, who entered Ege University Faculty of Agriculture in 1973, sent three of his songs to a record company in 1974. The artist, who married Ali Engin Aksu in November of the same year, also left his school. His music career began in 1970, when he won the sixth prize in the Golden Voice competition opened by Hafta Sonu magazine.

In 1975, she released her first 45 single Haydi Şansım, under the name Sezen Seley. The second 45, which was released under the name Sezen Aksu, was followed by Unlived Years/Sorry. In 1976, he released his third 45, Olmaz Olsun/Vurdumduymaz, which would make him number one on the forty-five record list for a long time.

Afterwards, the artist started his first stage work in 1976. Starting to take the stage at Bebek Belediye Casino, Aksu released the albums "Goodbye/How Many Years Have Been After, Lost Years/What's Good For You" and "Goodbye", the first 33 hits.

Sharing the same play with Adile Naşit, Şener Şen, Ayşen Gruda and Altan Erbulak, Aksu played seven different characters on the stage. After releasing her Firuze album, the artist was named "Female Singer of the Year" by Hey, the popular magazine of the time, in the same year. In 1983, Aksu participated in Hey's Traditional Oscar Concert as the Female Singer of the Year.

In 1983, Sezen Aksu decided to participate in Eurovision. The song "Heyamola", the lyrics and music of which belonged to Ali Kocatepe, was performed together with Ali Kocatepe and Coşkun Demir. This piece, which made it to the final of Turkey, could not represent Turkey in the Eurovision finals.
